We have learned from a CMA official that the events mentioned above will return this season “as they were before the pandemic.”
We don’t know if that means no distancing, masks, etc, but there will still be some constraints coming from Trenton this summer.
However, this is good news assuming it is all done according to Health Dept. guidelines.

BUDAPEST STRINGS: “Sinfonia” from Handel’s Salomon, Act III. (featured in the film Four Weddings and a Funeral)
Editor’s Note: Don’t forget the Summer Stars Classical Series: Thursdays in July at 7:30 pm in the Great Auditorium beginning on July 2 with the Imperial Brass, featuring special guest Ocean Grove’s Phil Smith (If you love brass music, this concert is not to be missed.)
The Summer Stars Classical series is wonderful and a great bargain at $16.00 for a single ticket or $75.00 for the series of 5 (plus fees.) It’s even cheaper than getting grass stains on your shorts while sitting on the lawn at Tanglewood. —-PG
Annual New Jersey Law Enforcement Memorial Service on Tuesday, May 19 at 11:00 in the Great Auditorium

In 2014, police across the country received accelerated criticism when the Ferguson, Missouri situation erupted last August. There were riots there at that time and again in November 2014.
On january 9, 2015 there was a police appreciation event at Neptune High School. We reported on that assembly and we discussed how the press and some of the public across the US had been turning on the police. A number of speakers at the Neptune event mentioned the issues, and we quoted them. Here is a link to that article or you can read it below.:
BF report on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day Jan 9, 2015.
Subsequently there were further Ferguson eruptions in March, 2015 after the ruling by the Justice Department. The AP reported that: “The Justice Department won’t prosecute a Ferguson, Missouri police officer in the shooting death of an unarmed black 18-year-old, but in a scathing report faulted the city and its law enforcement for racial bias.”
This is the gist of that Ferguson PD report: “In March 2015, the U.S. Justice Department announced that they had determined that the Ferguson PD had engaged in misconduct against the citizenry of Ferguson, by discriminating against African-Americans and applying racial stereotypes, in a “pattern or practice of unlawful conduct.”
Next Tuesday, May 19, 2015, the 31st Annual New Jersey Law Enforcement Memorial Service will take place in the Great Auditorium. It may or may not be appropriate to mention these issues at the service, but we will see if any of the speakers do, especially the Governor.
Will he say anything on Tuesday to defend the police who always place themselves in harm’s way to protect the public? Because of the current assault on our police, the danger to those who serve with honor has increased. This year five New Jersey heroes who died in the line of duty will be remembered at the service.
All members of the law enforcement community, family, friends , the press, and the public at large are welcome and greatly encouraged to attend. No RSVP is required. It begins at 11:00 am.

With all due respect to the organizations that planned this event in a hurry, the two hour session, although well intentioned, failed, for the most part, to confront the real challenges that have recently been causing so much angst among law enforcement.
We all are aware that the police have been frustrated lately by unfair allegations that they are out to abuse young African-American males. Those that recently promoted anti-police demonstrations, rhetoric , and even violence would like America to believe that the police are racists and go out of their way to stop, search, arrest and even shoot unarmed black men. Most reasonable people know that those charges are false.
These allegations have been paraded across the country by media and community “leaders” who prefer…

Memories of Sandy #2: The iconic Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove suffered severe damage to about 25% of its roof. Temporary (rubber) roof placed last week pending decisions on permanent solution.

The Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association is ready to complete work on the Great Auditorium roof, but they have had daunting problems deciding about which material to use. Their plan had been to obtain zinc coated stainless steel material, but manufacturing challenges have prevented that. JP Gradone, COO of the OGCMA, sent us the comment below in response to a Blogfinger inquiry yesterday.
“Our insurance company has recently agreed to pay for the installation of a temporary EPDM rubber roof on the damaged area while we continue to work closely with the insurance company to find a permanent solution to resolvethe situation with the roofing material. The temporary roof was completed this week and gives the Great Auditorium an excellent short-term solution while we carefully determine the best material for the permanent roof.”
One year ago we wrote about the Woody Allen movie “Stardust Memories.” Here is a link to that article because it shows the Great Auditorium decked out as the Stardust Hotel for that 1980 film which Allen considers one of his best.

And for this article about the GA roof, here is a version of “Stardust,” a song by Hoagy Carmichael, that was performed by Louis Armstrong in the movie.
But now, in 2015, we present a contemporary jazz version of “Stardust,” an instrumental, by Warren Vaché on trumpet (a Jersey boy,) Derek Watkins, and the Brian Lemon Quartet.
