PATTI LuPONE (live) “Meadowlark” from the (flop) Broadway show The Bakers Wife, 1976. It’s a cult favorite. Stephen Schwartz is the composer, and this recording is from Patti LuPone’s show “On Broadway” 1997. (Patti chats with the audience at the end. We will try to find the song from Oliver that she references.–PG)
“Come along,
fly with me, my meadowlark,
fly with me on the silver morning,
past the sea where the dolphins bark
we will dance on the coral beaches,
make a feast of the plums and peaches
just as far as your vision reaches
fly with me.”
Patti LuPone speaks to the audience and introduces a song which we will post shortly—from Oliver.
“As Long As He Needs Me”. Patty LuPone from Oliver:

Green Vistas
By Charles Pierre
I walk the hard and darkened streets
of Manhattan as winter thaws,
where steel and concrete choke the earth,
where nature can’t unfold or flow.
Gaudy neon and bits of glass
sparkling in asphalt swell the night
with portents of spring that lead me
to a park on the river’s edge.
My left hand flies from its pocket
to test the air. The air says, Write,
until trees are flaming with leaves,
until waves are emerald fire.

The Max’s hot dog truck showed up this morning in the park where the Saturday Farmers’ Market is held. The event was “a day to fight breast cancer.”
