Stanley Cup. New Jersey Devils, by Moe Demby

Stanley Cup. New Jersey Devils, by Moe Demby staff photographer  APP.  Goldfinger clan.  Blogfinger staff.  ©

The year was 2000, and Moe Demby, a photographer with the Asbury Park Press, was at the final playoff game to determine the winner of the Stanley Cup.  His job was to get a shot of the cup being paraded around the ice by a New Jersey player.

The game was to end late, so the presses were held.  Moe was standing on a ladder, using an early digital camera which cost about $25,000.00.   Once the image was obtained, he was to phone it back to the APP offices, and then the paper run was completed.

The Press was the first newspaper to carry this image the next morning.

Moe Demby has his eyes on more than pepperoni as he visits the A. Park boards.

We don’t know if Moe actually ate pizza or if he was using that café as a duck blind, hunting for chicks.

If any of you get some great shots of girls in summer clothes, we are working on a center fold edition, so send them to us before you settle for Playboy.

Thanks Moe—as they say in baseball, “good eye, good eye.”

It was 80 years ago that the Sombrero Man was last seen on a beach in Mexico.  Carlos Gardel made this recording about it.

He says the man flew off on an electronic taco. The man said one thing: “Corona light is the best beer on Earth.”
