LANA DEL REY “Blue Velvet.”    This song is from 1950, and Tony Bennett was the first to have a hit with it.  Lana Del Rey is a currently active recording star who made this version first in 2012, and it was well received.

David Lynch, who made the movie of the same name, liked it very much. Del Rey is a glamorous star who wore an off -the-rack dress from the mall to the Grammy Awards.

The version of Blue Velvet below is from her album Born to Die–the Paradise Edition (2018)

Her latest album was nominated but did not win at the 2020 Grammys. It is very good.

Lovers' Key Beach on the Gulf of Mexico, but you must pass a physical to be admitted. Paul Goldfinger photo

Lovers’ Key near Fort Myers Beach is on the Gulf of Mexico.  It is beautiful and popular,  but you must pass a physical to be admitted.  Photo by Paul Goldfinger who once said, “Speak softly and carry a long lens.”  February 2015

Two year update.  2017:

March 14, 2017.    Now that Viagra will soon be available in a cheaper generic version, Florida officials at Lovers Key Beach expect that many more men will pass the physical making the crowds there bigger.

BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB   “Murmullo.”    This song title translates to a “murmur.” As a cardiologist I have extensive  experience with murmurs , but the Buena Vista Social Club undoubtedly has something else in mind, and when checking in at Lovers Beach, we know what that’s all about.   Do you speak Spanish?

No beach fees, no lifeguards, no crowds in peak season, no boardwalk, no food concessions, and no schlock shops.  There are no condominiums anywhere in sight.

But there are clean and airy bathrooms hidden among the trees.

There is a parking lot which charges $5.00 per hour.
