The light in the morning, soon after the sun comes up, lets you see after the darkness.  It is soft and new. It has promise.

You hold a cup of fresh, hot coffee and you breathe in the cool air. The sky is partially lit, and there is one area that is especially bright.

What piece of music would fit best to capture a mood that a new day may bring something wonderful?    Since the mood contains some uncertainty, I think it needs to be a little sad, just to avoid too much optimism.

This does it for me: Paul McCartney with Irving Berlin’s “Always.”

“Kisses on the Bottom” is Paul McCartney’s 16th solo studio album. It was released on Feb. 7, 2012. The songs are mostly from another era including “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter” from which the title “Kisses on the Bottom” is part of the lyric.

The song we have chosen is from Frank Loesser’s “Guys and Dolls” and is a lovely selection called “More I Cannot Wish You.”  “Guys and Dolls” first appeared on Broadway in 1950, but it has had numerous revivals. This song is from the second act where one of the characters tries to persuade Sally that Sky Masterson is really a good guy.   —-PG
