These days, when Hope visits us in Ocean Grove, people think they’re twins. Magically, they both are now blonds. The photographer, their Dad Bernie, served in WWII in Europe. He spent most of his life working in the Garment District in New York. He ran a showroom where he was into ladies sweaters.
About five years after this photo, the family moved to Dumont, New Jersey. Bernie took a bus at the corner into the Port Authority. Their cat Sasha would walk to the bus stop to wait for him at the end of each work day.—–PG
JESSICA MOLASKEY “Growing Pains” This 1951 song by Arthur Schwartz (music) and Dorothy Fields (lyrics) was recorded by Tony Bennett with the Count Basie Orchestra. Jessica’s version was made with the Pizzarelli clan backing her up. Her husband is guitarist/singer John Pizzarelli. (“I Like Jersey Best.”)
“One day your momma drops the hem of your skirt,
Next day you give up yelling, “What’s for desert?”;
You can’t explain it, but you’re one solid hurt,
Baby, you’ve got growin’ pains!”

This is probably the only portrait of Eileen that I will display on Blogfinger which I did not make. She was 19 years old and was trying on some pre-marital headwear. This veil was rejected, and she doesn’t like the image much. But I like the lack of pretense revealed by this portrait.
We think her father, Bernard Harkavy, took this test shot. He ran a showroom in the garment district of New York City. Eileen had lots of sweaters, which her Dad’s company specialized in.
