This song,  “All My Life”  released in 2007, was Billy Joel’s first new song since 1993. It was written in honor of the second anniversary of Billy and Katie Lee.   Phil Ramone was the producer. It is a lovely ballad, reminiscent of tunes from years ago including “For Once in my Life” made famous as a slow tune  by Tony Bennett.

Billy Joel’s  first hit song was “Piano Man” from 1973.  He continues to perform, especially in concert in New York City. He is always sold out and he covers his music and others from multiple eras.

This song reminds me  of “All My Life” a 1936 ballad by Sam Stept which was sung by Julia Roberts for the movie “Everyone Says I Love You.”  What do you think of the similarity.?

Tony Bennett was a huge fan of Amy Winehouse  (1983-2011.)    He says that he misses her, and I do too.  Here they are with a remarkable rendition of Body and Soul, a song from the 1930’s which is so sensual that you can’t help but stare at the two of them and forget their age difference. —Paul Goldfinger, Editor @Blogfinger.

Brian O’Reilly keeps his fingers on the pulse of contemporary music for Blogfinger, and I really liked the  “LIttle Wanderer” video.   It’s funny that this portrayal shows the words when the singer pronounces them all too well.  Unfortunately I sometimes find it hard to understand the lyrics  of many pop songs and wish I had subtitles.

I am also struck by the fact that this theme is so traditional in music and in life, and it points out how certain ideas keep recurring because they are based on common human experiences which go way back in time.

Here is what Brian says about this song:  “Enjoy a story about heart-wrenching distance, and the joy inherent in the reunification with one you love.”

I think we all can relate to that theme and I thought what other music has the same idea and I came up immediately with three;

Puccini’s “Madam Butterfly”

Dean Martin’s “Return to Me”

And Player’s “Baby Come Back” which is below to remind you of their hit song.
