Michael Goldfinger was a staff photographer with the Asbury Park Press. He specialized in sports, especially hockey.
He was prepared for this shot and the paper wanted their image of this moment to be published first. To do this they set up a digital camera with a phone link to the APP offices. He stood on a ladder. They held the presses pending this moment.
Michael got the shot and transmitted it to the Press; The presses were turned on, and this photo appeared earlier than any other news source. He shared the story and photo with Blogfinger.
A short time later, the APP merged their highly regarded photo department with the art department, and they closed their darkroom, moving totally to digital.
After leaving the Press, Michael Goldfinger changed careers and, while living in the Grove, he contributed images to Blogfinger whenever he could.
