Lullaby of birdland: baby great blue heron

This baby blue has turquoise around the head, a white stripe in front, neck to legs, and a bluish gray body.  There is some reddish at the lower neck.

This bird was fishing on the surface of the water. A minute after this photo, a huge adult great blue emerged from hiding across the way, chasing the little one up the river about 30 yards.  Evidently the baby was in training for hunting.

Then the great blue dove into the water and emerged with a black fish in its beak.
