So now that the Bennies are gone we can photograph our town in its more pristine state as we see with Prosper Bellizia’s dreamy Auditorium pavilion. This is what Wicki says about Bennies: “The origin of the term is disputed.  One common theory says the term is an acronym for the cities  that out-of-town beach-goers live in: Bayonne, Elizabeth, Newark, and New York. But there are other theories.

Nevertheless, maybe some Bennies are from Hackensack, and a NJ rock group, enormously successful, called Fountains of Wayne  (from the outdoor sculpture place on Rt. 46 in Bergen Country)  have written songs with Jersey references including their song called “Hackensack.”  —Paul Goldfinger, Editor @Blogfinger
