December 12, 2017.      Today was the funeral of John H. Jackson who died at the age of 48.  He received a special and unusual  honor as a procession of about 100 vehicles, many of them official cars , fire engines, and vans belonging to Neptune police, fire and emergency services drove slowly along Main Avenue from the ocean, headed towards St. Paul’s Church.

John H. Jackson was a patrolman with the NTPD for nearly 20 years, as well as a U.S. Navy veteran, an OG Lifeguard and a volunteer with the OG Fire Department.

The Fire Department flew a huge flag to greet those coming into town for this event.

Our liaison to Ocean Grove from the Neptune Township Police Department, PO Mike Adam, has been reassigned and promoted to Detective Mike Adam.  Our new liaison is Det. Lt. Michael J. McGhee.  Here is his first report for the citizens of Ocean Grove.  We thank Dep. Chief James Hunt for continuing to provide a line of communication with OG.  These reports are distributed to Neighborhood Watch district captains and to Blogfinger.

We will publish them unedited except perhaps for some punctuation as needed. Please comment on these reports as you would do for any Blogfinger post.  I think we’ve exhausted all actor jokes, but now I see a “wrongful impersonation” charge.  I don’t know what that is, but hopefully he wasn’t arrested for doing Cagney or Jay-Z.

“The following incidents are from between 1-30-14 to 3-2-14.

“There was one person arrested for driving while intoxicated in the area of Main Ave. and Benson Ave.

“A package that was left unattended on the front porch of a house in the area of 50 Main Ave. was stolen.

“There were three reports of criminal mischief. Two vehicles were damaged by unknown actors. One occurred on Heck Ave. and one occurred on Surf Ave. An unknown actor damaged a door to a house in the area of 60 Cookman Ave.

“There was a report of a phone scam. An unknown actor called a resident and stated they were from JCP&L. They advised the resident they were behind on their electric bill.  The resident was instructed to obtain a moneypak pre-paid debit card to pay the bill. After the phone call ended, the resident responded to Walmart to obtain the card. A Walmart employee said she has seen a scam involving JCP&L and the debit cards in the past. The resident found this suspicious and called JCP&L to confirm the information. The resident was advised the call did not come from JCP&L. They were instructed not to get pre-paid debit card and to call the police immediately.

“Patrols handled several motor vehicle accidents at various locations in the Ocean Grove area.

“There was a report of a suspicious package located in the trash in the area of Beach Ave. and Spray Ave. The package was inspected and all was found to be in order.

“DWI arrest at Main Ave. and Benson Ave.

“A Wall Twp. man was arrested for an open container of alcohol and drug paraphernalia was made in the area of New Jersey Ave. and Asbury Ave.

“Numerous cars were towed due to the snow storms.  Residents and visitors must comply with posted snow emergency signs and with the Reverse 9-1-1 messages as it pertains to snow emergencies.

“An Ocean Grove resident was arrested for warrants and for Wrongful Impersonation in the area of Main Ave. and Benson Ave.”
