8/30/25. Blogfinger.net. Jersey produce: Corn from Wegmans (Ocean Twp) and tomatoes from the Sunset Saturday market. (Asbury)
Eileen and Paul Goldfinger, Editors Blogfinger.net. Ocean Grove, NJ.
We have been chasing the Jersey tomatoes from Wegmans, to Delicious orchards, to Matt’s Produce, and to the Sunset Farm markets.
The tomatoes have been disappointing. They look great from the outside, but the flavor and texture have been suboptimal. Today the tomatoes from Sunset market are somewhat better, but they need a dash of salt. However with tomatoes, it’s all relative. The Florida tomato farms produce good looking fruits for winter consumption all over the US, but the flavor tends to be bland and never as good as Jerseys. And the Jersey tomatoes, when the crop is perfect, are never surpassed.
The sellers from local farms now have a fine array of Jersey produce at Sunset.. And you can check out the Sunday market in Asbury. Just cross the New Jersey Avenue bridge and there it is at Press Plaza.

BUT the corn has been wonderful. We have had the best luck at Wegman’s—see above. They don’t let you peel them anymore, but it’s not needed. This morning the Wegman’s corn had just been put out–they were moist and cool, a they looked and felt as if they had been picked 30 minutes ago. Their corn lately has been superb. For us corn and tomatoes are two foods that require salt. Baked potatoes are the same.
The weather has been terrific, so now, from The original 1943 Broadway cast album of Oklahoma is Alfred Drake.
