All the news that’s fit to read or just to be amused about. And sometimes The Coaster reports about OG, and we report about their reports*.
From the April 3, 2025 Edition:
a. Asbury Park is a Coveted Community
“According to a recent survey Asbury Park is among the Most Coveted Creative Communities in America.
“A survey of 3,021 respondents to reveal the most sought-after creative communi- ties in the country.
“In New Jersey Asbury Park was named high on the list The city is known for its. vibrant music and arts scene. The iconic Stone Pony music venue and the Asbury Park Boardwalk feature murals, galleries, and artisan shops. Annual events like the
“Asbury Park Music and Film Festival highlight the town’s deep creative roots.”
What about Ocean Grove’s “roots?”
b.. Sunset Nursery to close. The property is for sale while the business is not.
*We have noticed recently that the Coaster has been ignoring Ocean Grove. Today’s issue, 4/3/25. contains nothing about the Grove other than a photo of a Grover and his dog. Blogfinger may have to take over the “home bartenders of the week.”
They used to cover the Home Groaners meetings, but it looks like that tradition is over. The Grover who used to be the OG news stenographer has retired, and there is no replacement so far.
Ocean Grove used to have its own newspaper, but that ended about 25 years ago. Blogfinger features posts about OG, but we have never claimed to be a newspaper.
However, sometimes I find things in the Coaster that I love. For example, in this April 3 edition, there is a wonderful piece about a man who collects typewriters. And there is a fine color photograph of a steam engine leaving the train station at Avon-By-The-Train in the 1950’s. Everyone should get their e-edition for the visuals. It is a joy to see and browse even if their journalism sometimes leaves much to be desired.
So, don’t give up on the Coaster. It may not be the NY Times, but it does have some virtues, and if they continue to ignore the Grove, except for headline news, then you can also check out Blogfinger, APP and NJ.com, but forget about the Tri-City News. And then there are the Facebookers with their dopey OG digital news and opinions. But even there are occasions when they supply news.
And don’t forget “Next Door”. Who knows what they are, but OG folks sometimes find it to be useful.
And finally there are reports from the Ocean Grove Community Association, formerly the Home Owners Association aka the Home Groaners Ass. They have a new name, but what the Heck Avenue does the word “community” mean to them?–They need a definition.
The “OGCA” inspired a BF post at their last meeting when they left God out of the Pledge of Allegiance, so we called them “The OG Godless Association.”
But don’t forget our BF reporters who provide all the news that’s fit to scoff at. Here is an example of our unique OG reporting:
