A Grover went to a flea market recently and purchased about 10 tintypes as above. This was one of many techniques used by photographers who found a variety of light sensitive surfaces to expose a photo. Tintypes were made of metal. I have seen others, and they are over 100 years old and they seem to be pretty stable in terms of fading.
This photo is probably from 1850-1909. It looks like a family. There was no information written on the back. It probably is worth about $10.00, but I am not sure.
