Farmer:  I’d like a hot pastrami on a roll.

Deli man:   In Delhi, we have it on naan bread.

Farmer: You’re my roll model.  Call me Al.

Very funny! At first I misread the headline as the name of the childhood song, “The Farmer in the Dell,” which reminded me of a remark I overheard while waiting for the Verdi concert to begin at the Great Auditorium last month..

A teacher was sharing socially/politically correct song lyrics that she had just learned at a teachers’ conference, and this included a revision of the line in “the Farmer in the Dell” that reads, “the farmer takes a wife.” The new language is: “The farmer takes a partner.”

    Try singing that one!
