The “Holiness to the Lord” sign (1894) in the Auditorium might be the oldest surviving electric sign in the world. While no one seems to have kept track of such matters, Edison had the first made in 1882 for a trade exhibit. NYC had its first sign in 1892. Given that most were outdoor affairs subject to wind, rust, and changes in building occupancy, that in the Auditorium might well be a rare survivor.
