If you are a fan of Jersey tomatoes you know that August is the month when the best ones from around here appear for sale.
Today I got a few at the market in Asbury, but they are still from South Jersey. They are pretty good, but not pretty, pretty, pretty good. That is the next step.
The farmer said that the hot weather would bring in the northern crop any day now. We always have to hold our breaths hoping that a burst of bad weather–especially rain deluges–would not wreck the crop.

Just beautiful
Meredith. We paid $2.99 per pound, but we will follow up. Thanks, Paul
Hi Just wondering how much they were, per pound? I saw some at a favorite local market last week, pretty sure they were $3.99, so I decided to wait a bit. I had really stopped there for some “Jersey Melons”, pretty much cantaloupes, but Sooo much better. A single melon was between $8.99& $11 !! So maybe I just wasnt seeing what I was really looking for? Would much rather get farmer’s markets produce that a grocery store……….. just wondering when the Real Stuff is in stock? Thanks.
Yummmmmy can’t wait.
A favorite of mine is a thick slice of tomato, topped with a slice of fresh mozzarella, fresh basil and drizzle of balsamic glaze.
