Deja vu all over again: The OG Chamber of Commerce June flea market; with a few changes.

“We could paint the jockey…” Then they stared at it for awhile. I left. 6/4/22 Paul Goldfinger photos. Click once to enlarge.

It was a beautiful day for the Giant flea market.  The grassy area near the Stokes statue was left alone providing some shady relief.  A big commercial jewelry concession was in the Pavilion, resembling 47th Street. What happened to the traditional Mom and Pop sellers?

The large crowd looked like it could fill the Great Auditorium, so…5,000?   Most of the flea shoppers seemed happy, enjoying this day at the shore.  If only this was the only huge event for this year.

There was a Christian rock band playing in the Auditorium, but when I went over, not a single person was in the audience.  I saw no sign of the shuttle buses, but the parking situation was predictably bleak.

A garbage can of unknown size near Stokes was overflowing onto the ground. A young boy failed to get his soda cup to stay in the can.

From a demographic perspective, the shoppers were almost entirely white. Any sociologists out there want to offer an explanation?

I didn’t see anyone I know, but maybe they were all avoiding me.

She bought nothing, but looks good doing it.

A large commercial jewelry display was there. Is that legal?

Girls in their flea market clothes. But you won’t find this stretchy outfit at Dilly Dally Designs.
