3/20/18: A huge flock of robins showed up in Firemen’s Park today. “Get the flock out of here,” said Old Father Time, so they flew away.
Today the water temperature is 41 degrees, while the air is 35 degrees.
Jean found a crazy man going swimming. “It’s the first day of spring, and I guess he just can’t wait to take the first dip of the season. Unfortunately there’s a nor’easter brewing for tomorrow.”
This guy ran in and soon discovered the shock of cold water in early spring. He was quick, because he was back out of the surf by the time Jean zeroed in with her camera.
Editor’s note on April 18, 2022. This morning it was 35 degrees in the Grove. The weather in April is too undependable to plant annuals for your gardens. But you can plant some perennials now.
Check with your nursery expert as to which perennials can be safely planted this month.
Eileen, our house and garden editor, advises to be patient. The end of May through June is safer for annuals.
CANTWELL AND QUILLEN–It may be April, but snow is still possible.
Red swimsuit may be “Chris the Fish.” He swims near the pier WAY before and after a bunch of us guys who swim mid-May to end of October.
Another snowstorm is not permitted. Spring has sprung this afternoon. The law states: “Snow will only be allowed during winter months.”
