BILLIE HOLIDAY AND HER ORCHESTRA From an album of Woody Allen’s movie music.
“Did I remember to tell you I adore you and pray forever more you’re mine?”
Frank: Thank you for bringing up the music. Jack has succeeded to present two powerful themes which often converge in the Boardwalk Pavilion: religion and popular secular music. Harry Eichhorn loved to feature show tunes with his summer band. And he told jokes.
On the other side of the coin we get a frequent presentation of Christian music–often gospel and hymns. And that music often creates happiness, hope and even toe tapping.
I find the variation to be compelling in the same way I like girls in their summer clothes in season and a different yet beautiful look in winter.
This song by Billie Holiday has the feeling of both kinds of music, and it is great, and Jack captured it. Woody loves to bring a New York jazzy mood with his choice of music, and Jack and Billie and the setting create a fine confluence of love.
Ironically Stardust Memories was about something else, but then again, there was Louie and “Stardust.”
If I don’t make sense, then just enjoy it all.—Paul @Blogfinger.
Yet another beautiful work by Jack Bredin . Bravo . I go to the pavilion during lightning storms . It gives me shelter while viewing lightning over the ocean . Quite a beautiful sight to see(and photograph) . Funny you chose Woody Allen Tune as in the opposite direction from the pavilion is the Great Auditorium with the giant illuminated cross that Woody bought for OG as a thank you to OG for letting him film Stardust Memories there.
The present pavilion dates from the spring of 1950 when it was called the “Memorial Pavilion.” Its immediate predecessor was destroyed by a storm on 14 September 1944. Unlike the three earlier structures, the pavilion was designed with aerodynamics in mind with a low sloping roof.
