Re: Loss of community in Ocean Grove….

“The past Community Celebration should have in reality been called “The Landlords’ Celebration.”  We have moved from a Seaside Victorian Community to a Farmhouse Style Town with ridiculous Chicken Style Farmhouse wooden fences encasing our abused Victorian Ladies.

“Airbnb’s that rent at the turn of a nickle have multiplied into the majority of houses in this town. Community has evaporated!

“True Victorian houses are gone!  What’s left is like a used tea bag of houses, with no historical vestiges left, draped with a hodge- podge of crap.

“The town has become a train lode of people renting, moving in, and out on a daily basis, destroying any sense of community or neighborhood.  You don’t know almost on a daily basis who becomes your neighbor.

“Loud parties have become the norm, not the exception.

“People not caring for anyone, but themselves at three and four in the morning, having back yard parties.

“Praying is not going to save this town from its demise.

“I guess Ocean Grove’s history, like everything else, is going to be erased.”

Signed,

BRING BACK A BETTER DAY

This is what he said in a separate paragraph, “Loud parties have become the norm, not the exception.” So I don’t think he actually blamed all loud parties on renters, but clearly he was taking aim primarily at short term renters.

In any case, your name and address were not mentioned, and the caption just said that a “party” was going on at your porch, and that was true. The picture of your porch party seemed to be such a happy event that we used it twice on Blogfinger.

Personally I haven’t come across any loud parties, but if any occur, and someone can’t tolerate them, Neptune has a noise ordinance.

Thanks for your correction. —Paul at Blogfinger.net

The photo shown was actually a yearly 4th of July porch party thrown by the owners and their friends who live here in the Grove. Our home always has been a place to celebrate with friends and family as I wanted to correct the initial post that mentioned that the parties happening in Ocean Grove were being thrown by renters….

JW I hope this letter writer answers you, because I don’t know either. He communicates with me by putting a note in my mailbox. I would pay attention even if the Pony Express or Paul Revere showed up.

I approved his letter to give him the benefit of the doubt.

And I do love the word “persnickety” That’s like “hodge-podge” which appeared here yesterday. Paul @Blogfinger.net

As one who replaced our old fence following Neptune’s strict design and code specifications–a frustrating process for many reasons, including a persnickety neighbor’s complaints to the installer and the township–I’m curious what are “Chicken Style Farmhouse” wooden fences?!
