Games people play—the parking chronicles.

May 20, 2021 by Blogfinger

Diagonal parking is hazardous. The truck in on Main Ave. at the corner with New Jersey Avenue 5/20/21 Paul Goldfinger photo.

That truck should not have parked there because it blocks the sight lines of someone on New Jersey Ave. wanting to pull out.  In addition, notice how the maroon vehicle has to swing towards the middle of the road.

In some towns they only allow small vehicles to park in such a location.

The Camp Meeting’s $50,000 parking study mentioned more diagonal parking.  Yikes—they really are from out of town.

This Blogfinger photo is one of many documenting the risky or sloppy or selfish ways that drivers avail themselves of places to park their cars.

And, soon it will be summer, and driving and biking and walking in the Grove becomes more dangerous. Watch out for those narrow streets clogged with dangerously parked cars.  A Grover suffered a bad leg fracture while riding his bike on Ocean Pathway due to someone suddenly opening the driver’s side door.

And then there are those intersections where unpredictable stop signs may be ignored or not seen.  There are many drivers in town in season who are from out of town–and especially watch out for those with New York plates.

So, don’t be distracted by our lovely summer ocean breezes. BE ALERT ON OG STREETS.

Thanks JW. And we also have bike riders in the Grove who do the wrong way maneuver more than cars. Bikes are not immune to the rules of the road. And it is particularly risky on a bike to go the wrong way because a situation, especially at an intersection, can become disorienting quickly if you are on a bike on our small streets.

I confess I don’t wear a helmet, but I know you do, and I should get smart and follow your example. I have a photo of you on your bike at a yard sale, You are wearing your helmet. –Paul

Suggestion: Also watch out for cars going the wrong way on some of OG’s one-way streets. Happened just the other day on the south end.

There is a state law that prohibits parking within 30 feet of a stop sign, since there is a stop sign on that corner neither the truck nor the parking space should be there.

This is a perfect example of Neptune violating the law in order to squeeze OG for more taxes through excessive housing units while at the same time putting the public in danger.
