A Camp Meeting official walked by and said to me, “I have never seen the Flea Market so busy and crowded.” A flea lady was doing a big business at her stand. She said to the flea man next to her, “It doesn’t get better than this!”
People were leaving the market with furniture, clothes and a variety of stuff. I even witnessed a hat seller discovering a special chapeau for a Rastafarian with a huge head of hair—perhaps a first in Ocean Grove.
Down by the Boardwalk Pavilion, folks were getting out of the sun. The beach was fairly crowded at both ends, although the middle was empty due to the fact that no lifeguards were there. A badge checker said that the middle beach will come to life as the crowds get bigger.
There were some minor inconveniences at the beach front, but the checker said that she heard no complaints. For those interested in heading from one end to the other, no one seemed to mind walking along the grassy sandy strip. One visitor said that it was “beautiful.”
A couple from Jackson, N.J. put down their chairs in the strip and enjoyed the day. The checker lady said that she was telling folks to not walk in the street.

It was wonderful to see such a crowd at the Flea Market. It was a beautiful day!
I am extremely upset that FEMA denied funding for OG again. It is very true that the boardwalk is the heart of the community and for us it was a deciding factor when purchasing our home. There is no other beach town with such charm. There is no other beach community in which you get an unobstructed view of the boardwalk and ocean when coming up Main Street. We are truly one of a kind. If this is an historical town then shouldn’t the boardwalk be repaired sooner than later? Don’t we want to preserve our history?
I hope Govenor Christie and other government officials stand by OG and not just talk the talk but rather walk the walk. Didn’t Christie say if FEMA denied us and the request came across his desk he would then make a decision? Let’s get the request on his desk. It’s time for the Govenor to step up to the plate? We need to move forward and do what ever it takes to get the job done!
