a. Men go off to war, and when it is for long tours, as in WWII, they would deeply miss the girls who were at the home front. They even painted pictures of their favorite “pin ups” on the planes to help remind them.
This song is from that era (1945). It was a huge hit, and Bing Crosby made this version with the Les Paul Trio. Paul was a pioneer in inventing the electric guitar that emerged in the 1950’s to change the course of popular music.
They say that Les Paul was not impressed by the early rockers who used his guitars to produce performances that Paul didn’t “get.”
b. As of April 4, we have 10 addresses for the May 11 Town-Wide Yard Sale. We will need a lot more for a successful event. Now’s the time to rummage through your stuff. Keep the prices so low that the items will be irresistible Please think of places that would allow you to post a flier. We expect to have some fliers shortly. In Ocean Grove we can no longer rely on the telephone poles (unless your color is pink), and many of our Grovarian Main Avenue businesses to not allow fliers in their windows.
