Just Wondering: Can Neptune Township deal with abandoned houses like Asbury Park does?

From Dolores Shanahan:   “Did you see the article in the Asbury Park Press about the abandoned houses?  The town is going to take over.  Do you think Ocean Grove could do the same?   What are your readers’  thoughts?”

Editor’s note:  The article linked below is about the city of Asbury Park identifying 45- 50 blighted and abandoned houses and then planning to implement the abandoned properties law.  We suggested that Dolores also send her inquiry to the OGHOA derelict houses committee.  –PG

Doug. Thanks for trying. But you might be disappointed if you expect the pols in Neptune to give credit to those in Asbury Park.

Just an update, I sent an email to the Mayor and all of the Committee a week ago, have not heard anything back!

    Dolores and BF,

Here is what I know so far!

Neptune Township has an ordinance, but not as tough as APs, here it is:

I have not heard from anyone from the Township yet; I’ll let you know when I do. It looks like it will be April before they can cite anyone because of the time limits on enforcement.

I suggest a lot of people show up at Committee meetings to press them; they are supposed to keep a list of the properties, so anyone that knows of them should send the address and maybe pictures to the person named in the link above.

    Excellent, Doug.

    Dolores,

I just sent an email to the Mayor and Committee asking them where our ordinance is? I’ll let you know if I get a response. I sent a note to the Home Owners Association earlier in the week also!
