Ocean Grovers: This is the Place For Opinions About the Storm and the Aftermath
August 25, 2011 by Blogfinger
I keep hearing 3-6 storm sturge probability for the area. Does anybody know what exactly this means for OG? How far inland with the ocean water go?
I’m also from Florida, and I grew up not far from where Hurricane Andrew hit in 1992. Remembering the damage from that and other hurricanes since then, my suggestion is not to stay in Ocean Grove! Florida homes are built to withstand hurricanes. Homes here are way too old and too close to the beach to not get damaged if we get a direct hit. Better to be safe than sorry!
Going back to NY home in A.M. Don’t know which will be worst…high rise in New York…..Westchester or here in Ocean Grove. Have a feeling it will be a toss up….probably have flooding in OG and lose power in NY….but would rather go back to NY than have mandatory evacuation and have to go to Wall high school ….also will not go anywhere without my dog.
I know a lot of people are staying, but I was in Mississippi after Camille in ’69, you don’t want to be here if it hits straight on! Everything was leveled within 1/2 a mile of the Gulf! I hope it doesn’t happen!!!
As summer residents here from Fla. we are experienced, having gone through
3 landfalls. We suggest battery lanterns, first aid kit, food that will not require cooking or refrigeration. A safe place inside your house that does not have a window where you can go even if its a closet (yes we have used it). Freeze whatever you can while there is electricity and don’t open the fridge un-necessarily when there is none.
We’re planning to stay in OG. Good luck everyone. Meet you at Day’s afterward.
