JCP&L cable splicer Bob Lally puts the finishing touches on lamp repairs. Photo by Mary Walton

After months of darkness, pedestrians may now cross a fully illuminated Founders’ Park bridge to and from Asbury Park. A four-man crew from Jersey Central Power & Light fixed the three burned-out lamps on Tuesday.

Some residents had expressed fear of using the bridge after nightfall. Individual citizens and Neptune Township officials had been asking JCP&L for weeks to address the problem, and finally it did.

The work began early Tuesday morning when the crew unloaded a metal rowboat from the JCP&L truck and positioned it under the bridge where corroded connections needed repairing. The job was completed by noon.
