In February 1969, New York City was hit by a major snowstorm.   That month the Vietnam War was still raging, and the North Vietnamese army was  attacking in the south.  Pres. Nixon ordered the first of many troop withdrawals. The peace movement was strong in the city.

I went out to take some photos and found this message on the Upper East Side, near Fifth Avenue.  The snow was still fresh, clean and beautiful.  The fence surrounded a private park—it’s a very fancy neighborhood.

“Blowin’ in the Wind:”   Written in 1962 by Bob Dylan when he was 21 years old.  It was the most famous of the 1960’s protest songs.  It was the title song for Peter, Paul and Mary’s 3rd album, and it was the most successful version—even more so than Dylan’s.

Shelley Belusar, the current CMA program director, worked with Peter, Paul and Mary for 30 years. She is currently organizing a very special fundraiser for the CMA rebuilding efforts after Sandy.

It will be a variety show called “Raise the Roof” at the Great Auditorium on the evening of June 15. The show will have performers from these genres: Broadway, folk, cabaret, and quite a few surprises ( You will not want to miss this show) including Peter and Paul who already have agreed to perform. We will bring you up to date on this event as the program lineup is fully organized. —Paul

Can Blogfinger or any of your readers tell us the Peter Paul and Mary(r.i.p.) to Ocean Grove connection ? I have heard various things : one or more of them lived/Summered here, Great Auditorium booker (Shelly ?) was related(sister ?), etc. They did play here regularly. So what if any connection to OG was/is there ?
