OG modern history—2022: Causes of parking mayhem continue to be documented. How about reconsidering paid parking?

September 2025:    The Coaster 9/11/25 edition reports that Neptune Twp will consider paid parking in a few locations to help with the parking situation.  We know that Grovers differ in their support for this, but we at Blogfinger.net have supported paid parking for years.

And Neptune will make potentially millions of dollars and then they could lower our taxes in OG.

2022:  Blogfinger.net.       We have been collecting  examples of errant parkers either creating spaces, inappropriately holding (saving) spaces, illegally parking without tickets being issued , occupying-warehousing  spaces at the beach front and elsewhere in town, and coming from Asbury to escape pay-to-park.

Those Asbury parkers often seek out spaces in the Grove near the bridges, especially the New Jersey Avenue bridge (north end)  which points them straight to commercial Cookman Avenue, one block away on the AP side.

But now  (2022). we have uncovered a variation on the Asbury theme, obtained from an OG eyewitness over on the west side of town.

The concern is that summer vacation renters who will be staying in A. Park seek out easy-to-find free  OG spaces at a distance from their vacation spot where they leave their vehicles. If they are staying for a week or two or longer, they will leave their cars in OG and plan never to move them.

This is different from the familiar genre who are going for dinner or who work in the restaurants over there. Those plotter-parkers usually leave that same day.

And there  are some Grovers who warehouse cars—some at the beachfront.

If we could emulate Asbury and adopt the zone/app  system of paid parking,  ?exempting Grover residents, it would  force these interlopers to pay, so they might as well stay in AP.

If you are not familiar with this new system,  there are no numbers in the streets and no machines to fumble over when parking.

It’s a new phenomenon, we live near the bridge, and now in addition to asbury staff, Cookman happy hour, and dinner visitors, we have had cars park in front or near our house for 2-4 weeks straight or longer. Lengthy airbb stays and those going to the airport or train station for vacations. Some also leave their second car and depart for an extended vacation in their other vehicle.

I don’t see it “right over the bridge.”

I see that there is parking in Asbury Park right over the New Jersey Avenue bridge for only $5 all day. They must be miserable to search for a spot in Ocean Grove and then walk over to AP. I would think it is easier and safer to spend the $5.
