We had just stepped out of our car when we felt a strange rainfall: It was light and feathery; but dense, composed of sheets of shimmering silvery drops, the sort we had never experienced before. The sun was still out, so the sunlight flowed through the pattern coming down onto us.
Eileen said, “I bet we get a rainbow,” and as we looked up we saw it.
It was so sudden that only a woman standing near us also noticed it. We stood there in awe. I pulled out my iPhone Pro 13 and so did the lady. I suggested she follow my example and hit the .5 wide angle lens button. And this is what we got. Eileen just stared in amazement. A young woman pushed her cart by and I said, “Hey, look at that!”
We stared, but the complete rainbow started to fade quickly as denser clouds began to roll in.
It was a natural phenomenon made possible by the magical confluence of essential ingredients– some visible and undoubtedly some not.
And our luck did not run out: Inside we found a bag of fresh mussels and two pre-cooked duck legs which Eileen will turn into a French culinary delight. Wegmans was unusually calm. Great for people watching.
I briefly said “hi” to a 4 year old boy, same age as Noah, riding in mom’s cart. He was chattering with her in another language. I asked her if he were bi-lingual, and he is—English and Spanish. Great!
And I saw a man: about 60-65 but handsome, stout, confident, happy and sturdy. He was bald and to me looked like Pablo Picasso. And like Picasso, he was with an animated lovely young woman. The Wegman girl was in a mini. She laughed as he shopped.
I imagined Picasso in that famous Robert Capa photograph holding an umbrella over the head of beautiful Francois Gilot, a young painter no doubt getting some tips from the Master.
