A poem for 9-11 by Igor Timkovsky

Igor Timkovsky became an American citizen in 1992 and he has raised his family here.  Some of you may recall him when we wrote about how he and his son Aaron were rescued from the rip-tides by OG lifeguards.

He is a proud American who lives in New York City. He loves to visit Ocean Grove.  He is a social worker who also is a poet.

After 9-11 he wrote a poem “written in the aftermath of that tragic event in September 2001.” He sends it to us now “to commemorate the 9-11 anniversary.”  English is Igor’s second language, and we admire his eagerness to express his feelings in his adopted language. Place his name in our search box on top right.

“Remembering TWIN Towers:”

You’re stabbed to death. You’re Ground Zero.
You’re the Big Apple’s tallest pride.
You’re missing. You’ve become a hero.
And no more tears. Our eyes are dry.

You lived your life. We called you Brothers.
You were the twins. We watched you grow.
I wonder if our country’s fathers
Could’ve ever thought that this will go.

You were the best. You were sensation.
All the world looked up at you. That’s true.
We called you then to cease frustration.
We called you simply One and Two.

When you were hit, there were no believers
Who comprehended all that through.
In state of shock, in time of terror
No one could tell who’s One and who’s Two.

You’re not in view. Our eyes are blind.
But our souls can see you all.
Our spirit’s strong. No one denies it.
You’ll lead us through. This is your role.
