Asbury Sunset Market is open Saturdays. This post is from 2017 and 2020. But the story is basically the same each season. »

Celebrity sighting in Ocean Grove. Summer 2015. The Boss—an honorary Grover.

August 30, 2025 by Blogfinger

From Stan Goldstein:   “Last week Patti Scialfa, Bruce Springsteen’s wife, posted this photo of her, Bruce and Rita Wilson (Tom Hanks wife) on Instagram.

Patti says “Asbury Park,”  but if you look closely, that’s right in front of Nagle’s facing east (Bruce, Patti and Rita facing west)… Pretty cool!  I think it was taken last Thursday (May 14, 2015).”

“Here they were right in downtown Ocean Grove!”

Maybe the Boss was in the Grove waitin’ on a sunny day.  Looks like he found one.

“I’m waitin’, waitin’ on a sunny day

Gonna chase the clouds away

Waitin’ on a sunny day”

As it was mentioned, the Sea Grass Restaurant is the remnant of the 1879 C. C. Clayton Store Annex. The main part of the store was to west, site of the notorious giant man-eating clam display of later years. Both buildings had hotel floors above. After being conjoined, the upper floors were removed in 1956 when the hotel closed.

You can clearly see the side of the Quaker Inn in the back ground.

I just had lunch at SeaGrass a couple of weeks ago with two girlfriends. We noticed the guitar signed by Bruce hanging from the ceiling and asked if Bruce had ever been there. The SeaGrass employees said, “No, Bruce never comes to Ocean Grove.” Guess that wasn’t true!

Several years ago, there was a shell shop in Ocean Grove, next to the Sea Grass… I decided to go in and browse. Five minutes later Bruce Springsteen, Patty and their children came in to shop…I was literally standing 2 feet away from him. I remember pondering if I should ask for an autograph, but chose to respect their privacy and not interrupt him. It was fun enough seeing them.

Bruce: How about coming to the Grove and filling those 6,500 seats in the Great Auditorium?
