James has been coming to the Grove since childhood. He loves the quietude and the beauty. Now he’s 40. Paul Goldfinger photo. 8/5/25
SEALS AND CROFT
An African-American Neptune resident recently told me that Neptune African-American residents don’t want to visit the Grove because they sense bias and they are more comfortable in Asbury or Bradley.
I have noted in the past that there are few blacks attending wonderful concerts in the GA or visiting our beach or boards.
Lately I observe an increase in African-Americans in our town; and, interestingly at Wegmans.
But the Town or the CMA might consider, as I have suggested before, that discounted or free tickets to the GA be offered to certain groups including high school and college music students. There are usually many empty seats at our wonderful concerts.
And discounted beach badges to poor communities in the area.
Also, James is from a town in Central New Jersey, so African American visitors may come from afar like everyone else who visits us.
