Doing a yard sale: is it worth the trouble? We said “no more” in 2021, but we came back. Will we return in 25?

Let’s get a good crowd. They can come by train or horseback. This photo is from last year on Heck Avenue. Paul Goldfinger photo.

Those of you who prepare for a  yard sale know that it is work.   Eileen and I have organized this sale and participated  for the last 13 years, and it is hard work.   And then there is the cleanup and disposal phase.

It is not a good way to make money because you often have to under-price the goods, and for many, it is more about getting rid of stuff rather than making money.

In recent years we swore that we would not do it again, but we have been downsizing, and this is a tempting way to get rid of stuff.  All too often you wind up with a lot of leftovers  that did not sell, and you wonder if it was “worth it.”

One year I had a gps for sale, and a man came over and admired it. But he said that he didn’t have any money.   So I told him that he could have it for free.  He refused saying that it lacked some of the latest tech advances.

We used to schedule it in May, but the weather is often bad, so this year we moved the event to June.  We said that it could drive a person crazy to have another yard sale.

But here we are again with  more things to sell.  Is it a surprise that we are back again?

Below is what Eileen said last year:  (excuse the trashy intro–the videographer is from the gang which can’t shoot straight.)

To join the sale, contact us at Blogfinger@verizon.net

Note our Yard Sale information tab at the top of our home page.  That is where we have the list of yard sailors. Eileen Goldfinger stars in the movie below:

I have participated a few times and last year was the best. I was downsizing and wanted everything to go so I didn’t put any prices on anything. When I was asked how much, I told them to make a donation to a local shelter or charity. There were a number of people that gave me money anyway and asked me to make the donation and I did. Everything was gone by 11 am.
