Sue: Thank you. It was a sunset, but just to be clear, for those who may wonder about my antipathy towards sunrises and sunsets as subjects for photographs, I am not opposed to posting photos taken at those times, because the light is quite beautiful then. End of day light is sometimes called the “golden time” for photography.
But I don’t want to post pictures that are just of sunsets or sunrises, because those subjects are, in my opinion, trite. If you look at photo exhibits in galleries, museums, etc. you will rarely find images of just sunrises and sunsets. If I had to choose, I would pick sunrises because most people have only rarely seen those.
I understand that, in person, most people find such events to be beautiful and inspiring. But to watch the sunset in Key West, on the beach, with the surf and the laughter of children gently providing a soundtrack, with other people nearby including lovers, fire eaters and cotton candy weavers, is a wonderful complex life experience as opposed to a static photo.
Of course I would agree that art appreciation and specifically appreciation of photographs is very subjective, however that is how I see it for my digital gallery. —Sue—-Thanks for listening. I took the opportunity of your nice comment to make these points.
