Modern OG history—2015. Lake Avenue. Some NERP planners called it a “paper street.” Next, eminent domain?

BytheSea: Is it me, or is your comment clouded by a shroud of sarcasm? No one has said that eminent domain will be used to implement the NERP. There isn’t yet a re-developer contract signed, and then after that, very detailed plans will have to be presented to the public before they are approved by the Township. However, if eminent domain were used, and that is theoretically possible, those beautiful lake front homes would lose their front yards. —-Paul

Some pretty spectacular, well maintained homes along Lake Ave. Some clunkers too. I just can’t see how eminent domain applies to the whole sidewalk … er … um … I mean street. How will they work around/by Founder’s Park? I also don’t see how the existing retaining walls will hold up to heavy traffic. Wesley Lake and the environs are listed as a Green Acres area. How do you get around that as well?

Yes, that’s the way to do it. Just put a nice looking 22 foot wide roadway down Lake Ave. Probably should do that first so all the construction vehicles have easy access. This would make the North End development a lot more sensible and improve traffic flow. Also, it will benefit real estate values all along Lake Ave.

Thank you CMA for this most excellent redevelopment project. It’s really going to help make OG a better town!

The Township Committee resolution designating W.A.V.E. a co-redeveloper states….the OGCMA is the owner of Block 146.03, parts of lots 1 & 2 and W.A.V.E. is the contract purchaser of the site.
Absent a subdivision, that means all of Neptune’s half of Wesley Lake and all of Lake Ave. Eminent Domain for streets is part of the re-development plan. All of Lake Ave may be needed as a street for the present plan.
