A 1980 movie called “Ordinary People” won 4 Academy Awards.

Paul Goldfinger still life. 2022.   “Ordinary People.”

One of my most memorable moments at the movies was in 1980 when I saw Robert Redford’s film Ordinary People. He directed the film. The opening has stuck with me and has not let go.

The curtain lifts and the screen lights up.  We are attending a church service. A choir is performing a beautiful piece, but I do not recognize it.  The camera slowly pans over the faces in the choir.

My friend Dick, a classical pianist, later told me that it was Pachelbel’s Canon in D.

When I looked at my photo above, that movie and its opening appeared in my mind, so that’s why it is there and titled that way.

LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA: This version is from the film Fifty Shades of Grey.
