Leica called this image “a Master Shot.” Ms. Cowle is an Australian photographer based in Singapore. She has been photographing for about 10 years and she has won many prizes for her work.
The image above was obtained in Delhi, India. I love her use here of undersaturated color. She is considered to be a “street photographer” but she has a variety of looks including great success with black and white.
In researching her, I discovered that there is a very active group called “Womenstreetphotographers.com”. They have a large number of members, and they have exhibits and meetings.
Blogfinger has been featuring women photographers for years and sometimes I think that women bring a special sensibility to the art.
But also because female photographers are under-appreciated. I noticed that many years ago. You might be surprised at the number of women who have become famous in photography including those who were working in combat, fashion, publishing, and history including those who were in Magnum the famous photojournalist organization who helped document the dust bowl for the Farm Security Administration.

I saw an international list* of well known street photographers recognized by Leica, including Elizabeth Cowle, where very few in that list are women, although sometimes I can’t tell gender from names because some first names may be used by men and women and sometimes a first name is impossible to decipher such as Chinese names.
