There was a flurry of press interest in this matter last May (2024) because the DEP threatened major fines if the CMA would not open the beach on Sunday mornings. The CMA agreed pending further adjudication.
Since then this matter has been quiet, but this current hearing suggests that the Grove will be back in the news “in a few months.” Interestingly, the local press hasn’t yet figured out that the “administrative trial” is now on-going.
The CMA has mentioned a variety of reasons for their Sunday morning rule including religious sentiments and tradition.
