This was found on an OG Facebook page 2/9/25:

An administrative trial was held this week in Mercerville, NJ
with OGCMA and the NJ DEP re Sunday morning beach access.
It began Mon, Feb 3 and wrapped up yesterday, Feb 7.
The judge requested further info from both sides and is expected to render her decision in a few months. There were reams of documents submitted and testified to from both sides and DEP officials and OGCMA trustees and other witnesses testified.
However, the DEP Commissioner may modify, accept or reject the administrative judge’s decision ultimately.

The report is from JP Thompson of OG.

There was a flurry of press interest in this matter last May (2024)  because the DEP threatened major fines if the CMA would not open the beach on Sunday mornings.  The CMA agreed pending further adjudication.

Since then this matter has been quiet, but this current  hearing suggests that the Grove will be back in the news “in a few months.”   Interestingly, the local press hasn’t yet figured out that the “administrative trial” is now on-going.

The CMA has mentioned a variety of reasons for their Sunday morning rule including religious sentiments and tradition.

Here is a 2023 post about a CME opponent as stated in the Coaster:

Criticism of CMA on beach closure is beyond belief in ’23

It is now 2025, and the matter is “pending”.  In retrospect, was it appropriate for the DEP to get involved with this situation?  We can criticize the CMA for a variety of reasons, but a 3 hour closing on summer Sunday mornings?

I bet most Grovers can live with that, and the judge should dismiss the DEP complaint on the grounds of bullying the folks.

The DEP must have something else to do, like combating pollution, illegal aliens, fire risks, and flooding at our North End.  Here’s a song regarding the DEP complaint. It’s from Porgy and Bess:
