Ruding & Wood: An ongoing photo essay by Blogfinger

July 12, 2024 by Blogfinger

Greg Goldman, owner of Ruding  & Wood in his fascinating work space.   All photographs by Paul Goldfinger. Blogfinger.net   7/12/24.  Click once to enlarge.

An artist finishes a tiny piece of wood. Behind him is a kitchen (“Hoosier”) cabinet which will be repurposed for a young man who owns this family piece.

Ruding & Wood is an amazing enterprise  in Bradley Beach devoted to restorations and refinishing of antique furniture and other works of art. They have been in business since 1941 and they have done first rate work on some of our pieces.   The pieces created  by these craftsmen have been presented in major decorating magazines such as Martha Stewart’s.

Their place of business is a cavernous work and exhibition space at 1106 Main Street, Bradley Beach, near Ocean Grove.    It is  a “no nonsense”   open shop where skilled artisans  are meticulously working on a variety of projects.

I went there with Eileen to have her carved  table re-done according to her specifications. We will photograph it when it is finished.  We were shown around by the  owner Greg Goldman who works with a staff of  skilled specialists  who were introduced to us.

I looked around and saw some objets d’art that I wanted to photograph, and Greg graciously allowed me to wander around.

Eileen met with one of the artists there who is  an expert at restoring antique finishes as well as saving old broken pieces.   They have had  several meetings to make decisions about  bringing her old  table back to life.

Greg says that  some of his clients are young people possessing important old family pieces like the Hoosier cabinet (above)  which  Greg and his staff  will restore   into a home for records and a turntable.

At Ruding & Wood, all you have to do is dream.

We will present more of our photo essay about Ruding & Wood in small presentations. See below.
