I went to the beach as night began to emerge (8 pm.) I wanted to catch the pier at low light, and there were two pleasant surprises: a full moon and lovely Denise from Jersey City. She was wearing a white coverup and she was posing for a friend with a camera and flash.
I asked her permission, and she was enjoying our photo shoot. We did have something in common because we were both from Jersey City.
During my time there, until it got dark, I spoke to about ten people, and none were Grovers. We met Neptune City, Freehold, and Loch Arbor. On the pier a couple spoke to me and said, “We read your blog every day.”
“Are you from Ocean Grove?” I asked. No; they are from Stroudsberg, Pennsylvania.

What the hey? Another tourist had no idea what was going on. Some of those pilings look awry—or amiss.
He thought that the fence was to “keep kids from jumping off.” I told him the cross and railings would do that. (Yes?)

This photographer with a 400 mm lens spent his time shooting the ocean. He didn’t seem to notice the pier or Denise. All photos by Paul Goldfinger. 5/22/24
