This strong fenced structure is out quite a distance after all. So it looks like it is here to stay until the engineering issues are resolved. Meanwhile the non-fishing pier is open for the summer.
We spoke to a few early visitors who were pleased, but also cautious. The walker above was happy but wary.
She usually loves to go out to the end where she has seen whales, dolphins, and boaters, and where she has found standing at the end to be exhilarating. That joy is gone for now, but she will continue her daily visits to the Grove pier and she will still find great pleasure at our shortened yet still exciting new pier.
I spoke to another woman visiting from out of town. She was just standing on the pier, gazing out at the beach and the ocean. She was just happy to be there—no questions asked.
So congratulations to the CMA for building the new pier, despite the aggravations, and now with some access for the public instead of a plywood greeting.
And don’t forget, they raised the money for this project after FEMA refused to help, and they didn’t have to rebuild after Sandy. There is no religious angle here so far except for the design.
They did it because they love the Grove and respect its history and its people.
ORIGINAL CAST OF STARLIGHT EXRESS : This Broadway show from the 1980’s was about musical trains on stage with roller skates. It was a huge hit around the world, and we took our young boys to see it in New York. This song struck me as having some alternate understandings. It is quite wonderful.
