I Dreamed a Dream….. »

Asbury Avenue–an OG village.

March 27, 2024 by Blogfinger

Near the bridge to A. Park.  Asbury Avenue.

Asbury Avenue in OG is an interesting neighborhood.  It has a hip quality–sort of like the Greenwich Village of the Grove.  There is a variety of housing  from tiny cottages to big Victorians. It is along the OG side of Wesley Lake.

Gardens are quirky , and people walk by, taking small paths down to Lake Avenue.

I found a bicycle tire in a tree on Asbury Avenue. It’s been there for several years:

You cannot drive on Lake Avenue, so those who live over there have some challenges and can cut through from A. Ave.

Some small Grovarian streets with cottages  such as Mt. Carmel and Mt. Zion branch off, and you can find shortcuts to the Great Auditorium.

A large house has a sign out. “Rooms to Let.”  If you go straight and south you run into Tent Village as well as Founders Park–the best park in town.   Parking is a particular issue.

This young woman was walking with 3 small kids. She was calm while they chattered and strolled quickly  in front of her.  They looked like a duck with ducklings.

The people who live over there seem younger than say Webb Avenue or Heck, and I have met some with unusual occupations such as the musician who plays Indian music, and a very flexible blond yoga instructor named Grace who can stand on her head.

And walking down the street at night can seem unusually romantic. One night I photographed Dan the luthier who kissed his girlfriend–just engaged before I met them.  I can’t find that photo; Dan must have it.
