We mentioned in a post dated Feb. 4 that The Starving Artist restaurant would not reopen in the spring. Our information was obtained from a reliable source and backed up by comments from others.
However today 2/7/24 we heard from Arnold Teixeira, the owner of the business, who angrily denied that he was closing his restaurant.
Since they are currently closed, as is the case every winter, it is a “no harm, no foul” situation. His customers, of which there are many in town, will find him again in season.
Blogfinger depends on local sources for local information. We do not have a staff of investigative reporters.
But we are always willing to make valid corrections.
However today, 2/09/24, we heard from an anonymous source:
“I understand the business is for sale. It doesn’t make sense to close a business you are trying to sell, it would diminish the value.”

On one of my visits last summer, someone told me there was a sign in the window mentioning the place was for sale. I did not notice this when I had lunch there that day.
Between the closing of Nagle’s and the burning of the North End food hall, OG has lost a good portion of its eateries.
Originally, Day’s served only ice cream. In 1938, Agnes Day (1886-1965), daughter of Pennington and owner since 1936, added the tea room for lunches and suppers that were the first meals served at the location.

It seems that Arnold wants out personally, and that is probably the news that BF was hearing via the grapevine.
It would be better for the town and for him if the restaurant stays open when he leaves.
