Igor loves to come to the Grove each summer with his family. He is a social worker in Washington Heights, NY. He also is an immigrant from Russia, and we first learned about him when he told the story of how OG lifeguards saved him and his son Aaron from rip tides.
So we hear from him periodically and we try to get together when he is in town.
This past August I missed Igor during his annual summer visit to the Grove. He’s working on an updated book of poetry which already has 20 poems.
Love Sonnet to Ocean Grove:
I sing my hymns to Ocean Grove
I took a train. I never drove.
This town is my sole love.
I am its loyal lone dove.
Yellow Season:
I spent in Grove a yellow season.
I am so sorry, no known reason.
I tried to look the ocean in the eye.
Don's hide the truth, just answer why. The ocean sent to me the highest waves.
The waves I bet the ocean caves.
I look at a yellow warning flag.
Why are you yellow?
You're such a drag.
Here is a poem from Igor when he submitted it in 2019:
