Today, 9/3/23, on a Facebook site called “Ocean Grove Friends and Neighbors Uncensored” Neptune United made a statement which included this:
“Neptune United would like to thank the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) for listening to the concerns of the community.”
This is a reference to the complaint made by Neptune United regarding the Sunday morning beach closures.
Such use of the word “community” reminds me of the CMA when it refers to its “community.” Anyone who uses that word publicly should define what they mean by “community.”
I am skeptical of both uses—NU and CMA.
Neptune United has spoken about OG issues at at least one meeting of the Home Groaners and also at the parking forum held at the Arts Center. At the latter, the meeting was called by the Neptune mayor, but who was Shane Martins representing when he got up to speak? Why was he chosen to speak when others could only talk at the mic for 5 minutes?
Unless he says whom he is representing, Martins can only claim to represent NU or perhaps only himself.
Now his group speaks of representing “the community.”
As for the NJDEP complaint, it was brought by Neptune United not the “community.” As far as we know, NU consists of only a handful of people.
At their website, they say,
“While our focus will evolve as new issues arise, our goal will always be to protect and celebrate an increasingly diverse community.”
So their “community” for them to “protect and celebrate” is quite large, but who chose them to “celebrate and protect” us? And what does “diversity” mean to them?
Don’t let anybody speak to you about” community” unless they define what that word means to them. Do you think the people of Ocean Grove want to support what Neptune United stands for now? I don’t.
They have misjudged the perception of OG citizens when they made themselves the subject rather than the longstanding issues which concern homeowners and renters in the Grove.
Judging by their website, their only serious activity currently is to bash the OG Camp Meeting Association.

SHANE: When people see you getting up to speak at a public meeting, they assume that you represent Neptune United. I don’t know if you were introduced as the resident representative of the Township Committee parking subcommittee that day, but regardless, thank you for clearing this up.
But the statement on Facebook was clearly made by Neptune United, and that was the main point of this Blogfinger post.
Paul
Neptune United has never had any involvement in any discussion related to parking.
Your question: why was I “chosen to speak when others could only talk at the mic for 5 minutes?”
The factual answer: The following quote is taken from the Presentations for the January 28, 2023 Township Committee Parking Forum, available on the township’s website: “The Township’s Subcommittee on Parking “consisted of two representatives from OGHOA, OGCMA, OG Chamber, BPA and one resident.” The reason I was “chosen to speak” was because I was the resident representative on the parking subcommittee which had been meeting regularly since June of 2021 to address the parking issue in OG.
Questions to NU :
So what about the OGCMA community? Do they not need to be considered?
Why be so divisive over 3x hours?
I suggest that maybe your NU community go to Asbury Saturday night and get drunk. Have a hangover Sunday morning and skip going to beach .
Or is opposing that OG is a dry town next on your agenda ?
