The “old” OG pier. Paul Goldfinger photo.

Now we have a beautiful new pier which is very popular, and you may fish from it. I spoke to a CMA official who said that there were no restrictions, so it is after all a true fishing pier, although different from the traditional version.
The CMA needs to publish some rules and regs regarding fishing there.
As a photographer, I thought the prior pier, post Sandy, retained a nostalgic feel, captured in this photograph. Folks liked to go down on the beach and walk by as the waves crashed around them; like something long ago and far away
It was like a remnant of some ancient civilization, maybe like a Roman aqueduct. Can you picture a Roman legion marching on our beach on a foggy morning, making sure that everyone had a beach badge.
Do you think that the Romans, once they converted to Christianity, closed the beach on Sunday morning?
