Near Ocean Grove , old guys like to get together in the morning at Wegmans for coffee and bagels. In the photo we see a few French geezers hanging out at the cliffside medieval village of St.-Cirq-Lapopie chatting while watching the mist rise off the Lot River valley. They were probably smoking those Gauloises cigarettes—-unfiltered and strong. And you won’t find bagels there: croissants with butter and espresso.
We went for such a breakfast; outdoor cafe but no smokes. The owner gave Eileen his recipe for homemade strawberry preserves.
This stone town was built in 1522 (the Middle Ages.) on the edge of a cliff. It had military advantages then but now it is a tourist town and is considered one of the most beautiful in France.
A small market appears as the mist melts away. Their specialty is foie gras. You go there and get a bread, some cheese, some sausage, some wine, and then tuck it away till lunch time: a picnic in a vineyard.
