When I was growing up near Yardley, PA, in the 1950s, the appearance of a blimp was the cause of much excitement among the younger set. I suppose these came up from the Lakehurst Naval Air Station in those days.
There was a time when the Goodyear Blimp was kept at Flushing Airport during the summer. This airport dated from the early days of aviation and was the busiest in NYC for a time, but served only small planes. Being just a few blocks from my apartment, I could experience the hum when the blimp came in for a landing. It was used to provide aerial TV shots of the sports stadiums during events. One would occasionally encounter the uniformed crew in a local coffee shop wearing a badge with a winged blimp. Alas, the blimp departed and the airport, which was built on a filled swamp, subsided below the water level.

Ocean Grove: a really cute small town at the Jersey Shore.
