« Musical history in the Great Auditorium: the Doo Wops flop over from age and exhaustion! 2018
Greetings From Asbury Park: “Hi Mom.” »

Will there be a Memorial Day parade this year? YES! May 29, 2023. “Remember and honor.”

Compliments of the Neptune Twp Police Dept.  Try and find this on the Neptune web site.  Here it is 4 days before.

It will probably arrive on Main Avenue at 10:30-11:00 am.

In 2021, the annual Memorial Parade was cancelled.  Perhaps because of COVID worries, although other events were permitted.  There was a parade last year–2022.

Now—-Neptune  (the town, not the planet) has plans for  a parade on Monday May 29, 2023. But they haven’t been promoting it.  I learned about it from a Neptune police officer.

So, get out your red, white, and blue parade gear.  The parade will be like past parades.  It will start at Neptune High School at 9:45  am. Then it will pause at Broadway OG for a brief service and then into the Grove.  There will be no candy or trinkets. Will there be any active duty military?  We hope so.

Watch for details, if the Neptuners tell us,  as to who will march besides lots of fire trucks.

There will be a patriotic  concert by the Atlantic Wind Ensemble on Saturday May 27 at 7:30 pm in the Auditorium. It is free.  Don’t miss it. And, by the way, the CMA has placed a new sound system in the the GA.

Here’s Sousa’s “the Thunderer.”   I discovered it when marching with the Rutherford High Bulldog Marching Band in Rutherford’s only parade each year:  Memorial Day.  In that town it was a big deal since they had no July 4 parade.

Note that the CMA will not have a July 4 parade. Instead they will celebrate an” Independence Weekend”  with a “Parade” on  Saturday July 1.  We haven’t seen the list of people who will man the parade, but last year they didn’t have a single true-blue marching band; not even the Scarlet Fliers showed up.

We will be commenting on the lack of patriotism exhibited by their July “Parade.”     It should be named “Celebrating Ocean Grove and the CMA.”

AND:  On June 21, 2023, at 6pm, the Neptune High School graduation will continue the tradition of having the event in the Great Auditorium.  We will be there for photo ops.
